You’re thinking along the right lines with getting your daughter tested first. Many people assume they know what foods are causing them symptoms and go straight to eliminating these foods. This can mean they miss the real underlying cause, and are at risk of becoming nutrient deficient if they don’t replace the foods with an alternative.
Lactose intolerance can be tested in a number of ways, including a blood test, breath hydrogen test, biopsy and stool sample. Your GP or paediatrician will be able to advise you which of the available tests are best for your daughter. If the result is positive for lactose malabsorption then you can begin a lactose-free diet.
