Oats themselves do not naturally contain gluten but commercial preparations of oats are often contaminated with wheat, which does contain gluten, so it is best to avoid oats or make sure they are gluten-free by reading the label. Unlike people with coeliac disease, some people with gluten sensitivity do not need to completely exclude gluten from the diet. You might find that you are able to tolerate small amounts of gluten, in which case oats might be fine for you even if they are not labelled as gluten-free.
