Foods sold with a use by date are not considered safe for consumption past that date. They can’t legally be sold past the use by date either. Foods with a best before date can still be legally sold past that date and should be safe for consumption for a little while past that date. If you’re ever in doubt about whether something is safe to eat, it’s better to err on the side of caution and not eat the food. Always abide by the manufacturer’s recommendations for storage, as this will keep the food as safe to eat as possible.
