Detox diet are based on the idea that harmful toxins build up in our body and cause a whole range of diseases, as well as contributing to weight gain. It is worth pointing out that our body is full equipped with its own detoxification systems, including the liver and the lymphatic system, so it can handle most potentially toxic substances that it comes across. With regard to the claim that detox diets will help you lose weight: the majority of detox diets are simply very low calories diets in different packaging so it’s no secret that people will lose weight because they are eating very little! Once you go off the diet, you are likely to put that weight back on and maybe a little more weight depending on how long you were on the diet for. The best way to approach weight loss is to eat a healthy balanced diet that is low in high-energy foods and exercise regularly.
